MICC Mineral Insulated Cable to BS EN 60702-1

Copper-clad, mineral-insulated (MICC) cable that keeps working at 950 °C — the ultimate fire-resistant cable for emergency power and life-safety circuits.

BS EN 60702-1MICCFire Resistant 950°CLSZH Covering750V

Product Overview

MICC (Mineral Insulated Copper Clad) cable uses compressed magnesium oxide (MgO) as insulation inside a seamless copper tube — a construction that cannot burn, melt or emit smoke. It maintains circuit integrity at temperatures up to 950 °C for hours, which is why it is specified for fire pumps, emergency lighting, smoke extraction and fire alarm circuits in high-rise buildings, tunnels and industrial plants.

Our MICC range is type-tested by TÜV Rheinland to BS EN 60702-1:2002+A1 (certificate R 50515987, 500/750 V), available as bare copper or with an optional LSZH outer covering where the copper sheath needs corrosion protection.

Key Features

Cannot Burn

Inorganic MgO insulation survives 950 °C — the highest fire rating available in any cable.

Long Life

Copper sheath + dry MgO = service life measured in decades; moisture-sealed terminations required.

Naturally EMI-Shielded

The copper tube acts as a full metallic screen — no separate screen needed.

TÜV Certified

Independently certified to BS EN 60702-1 (certificate R 50515987).

Standards & Certifications

  • BS EN 60702-1 — mineral insulated cables rated up to 750 V
  • TÜV Rheinland Cert. R 50515987 (view on certificates page)
  • Fire tests per BS 6387 C / BS 8491 circuit integrity

Typical Applications

  • Fire pumps, sprinklers and smoke-extraction systems
  • Emergency lighting and evacuation circuits
  • Fire alarm and emergency voice communication
  • Tunnels, metros, high-rises and industrial hazardous areas

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: MICC vs XLPE fire-resistant cable — which do I need?

Soft fire-resistant (FR) XLPE cables with mica tape survive ~90 minutes at flame temperatures and are cheaper and easier to install. MICC survives 950 °C for hours with essentially zero degradation and 60+ year life — choose MICC for critical life-safety circuits where failure is not an option.
